Director of Ceremonies – Guidance Notes

‘Being a DC is the best job I have had in Freemasonry’.

I have heard these words, or something similar, on many occasions.  When combined with ‘the Mark Degree is the Happy Degree’ a powerful combine of enjoyment and happiness are created.

But with enjoyment and happiness also comes some degree of responsibility and the role of Director of Ceremonies is one of the most pivotal for any Lodge meeting in ensuring all runs smoothly from the moment that Brethren arrive at a meeting to the time when we depart wishing one another well ‘until our next happy meeting’.

I am grateful to all those who have been kind enough to give polite guidance throughout my time as a Lodge DC, Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and now as the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies.  But there have been times when, before a meeting, I have taken to the Internet trying to answer some query or another and so thought you might find it helpful were we to have a series of guidance notes to aid all Directors of Ceremonies within the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Warwickshire.

I hope that you will find them useful, and I am grateful to many colleagues in compiling them.
